Kawhi Leonard of the Clippers is voted All-NBA in LA

Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard may not have been able to finish the season healthy, but that did not detract from the two-time NBA Finals MVP's spectacular regular season.

This week, his outstanding play was officially recognized when the league announced both the All-NBA and All-Defensive teams. Leonard was named to the 2023-24 All-NBA Second Team along with guard Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks, guard Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves, big man Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers and forward Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns.

This season, Kawhi Leonard was selected to the All-NBA for the sixth time and as a member of the second team for the third time.

This year's All-NBA First Team includes Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

This year's All-NBA Third Team includes LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings, Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers.

Kawhi makes history

With his sixth All-NBA selection, Kawhi Leonard joins an exclusive circle of NBA superstars. Leonard is the 14th player in NBA history to be selected to the All-NBA team six times and to the All-Defensive team seven times. The Clippers forward is the only player in the league's 78-year history to achieve this feat, alongside Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Tim Duncan, Hakeem Olajuwon, John Havlicek, David Robinson, Kevin Garnett, Gary Payton, Scottie Pippen, Walt Frazier and Jason Kidd.

All of the above players were also named to the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team and are all members of the Hall of Fame, with the exception of Chris Paul. Given Paul and Leonard's illustrious careers, these two will likely be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame shortly after their retirement.

In his second year after ACL surgery and his first year after meniscus surgery, Kawhi Leonard averaged 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 68 appearances for the Clippers, while posting a career-high from the field and the second-best three-point percentage.

Leonard is signing a new three-year, $151 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers next season. It remains to be seen if his former teammates Paul George and James Harden can agree to a deal to play with him on the Clippers again next season.
