New images of the Motorola Razr 2024 leave nothing to the imagination

Summary

  • Motorola is expected to launch the Razr 2024 soon, which will feature a 3.6-inch OLED cover display and a 6.9-inch primary display.
  • The smartphone has appeared in a Chinese device certification database, giving us a closer look at its design and confirming some of its hardware attributes.
  • Motorola will launch the more expensive Razr+ 2024 flagship next month, alongside the cheaper Razr model.

Motorola launched the Razr and Razr+ 2023 in June last year, which means the 2024 successors are not far behind. In recent weeks, leaks have revealed some interesting details about the Razr+ 2024/Razr 50 Ultra and its cheaper sibling, the Razr 2024/Razr 50. The latter has now found its way onto a certification website, where we can see the smartphone in real-world images from all angles.

These images were unearthed by ITHome from China's TENAA certification database (via Android Authority), where devices generally appear before their wider release, effectively killing any suspense the manufacturer wants to maintain before a major launch.

It's worth noting that the flagship Razr+ 2024 was already leaked in real-world images earlier this month, while the cheaper variant also received the render leak treatment in the not-so-distant past. In addition to these three images detailing the Motorola Razr 2024, the certification database also confirms some of the hardware attributes of the clamshell foldable device.

The biggest highlight of the Razr 2024 is its large 3.6-inch OLED cover screen, which is the same size as the rumored cover display on the Razr+ 2024. However, there are some differences in the placement of the cover screen, as you can see in the renders below. The Razr+ 2024's screen extends all the way to the hinge, while the Razr 2024's screen stops just before the hinge. The standard Razr 2024 will also have a 6.9-inch FHD+ OLED screen (unfolded) with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Motorola will reportedly equip the Razr 2024 with the MediaTek Dimensity 7300X chipset, while its predecessor featured the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC. This will be supported by a 50MP + 13MP rear camera and a 32MP selfie camera. TENAA's website mentions up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage, but this could change on release day. Finally, the 4,200mAh battery is expected to be included in the smartphone again this year.

A launch in June is likely

The timing of this latest certification by Chinese regulators suggests that the Lenovo-owned brand could repeat the release of its foldable devices in June last year, which is technically just a few days away. This would also give Motorola some time to establish itself in the market before Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 in early July.

Although there were rumors that Samsung would jump on the budget foldable bandwagon this year, those plans seem to have been shelved for this year. This means that the Motorola Razr 2024 will be one of the few “affordable” foldable phones available in the US when it launches.
