Former Ohio State University football player ends his football career for health reasons

The Ohio State football program had a lot of really good players during its run to the national championship in 2014. Many of those guys went on to be drafted and most of them went on to have solid NFL careers. Many of them are still in the league today and playing in the league.

One of those former Ohio State football players is center Billy Price. Price played for the Buckeyes from 2013 to 2017, starting all of his games after taking a redshirt in 2013. He finished his career as a center and was selected in the first round by the Bengals in 2018.

Although his career in Cincinnati didn't quite go according to plan, he still had a lot of talent. He's only 29 years old, so he still has a lot of football ahead of him. At least he would if he hadn't decided to retire from football due to a recent medical issue.

Price announced the decision on social media. He suffered a pulmonary embolism that required emergency surgery. He now has to take blood thinners. Because of the risk of internal bleeding, he must end his career as a football player in order to continue his life normally.

This is sad news. Price couldn't leave football willingly. Even though he wasn't on a team, he still would have made the roster if an injury had occurred during training camp. Injuries were the hallmark of his professional career. It was a shame he never got to reach his full potential.

I hope Price can come to terms with his decision and find something to fill the void football will leave in his life. He is a good Buckeye and a good person. We wish him the best in his retirement.
