Real Salt Lake draws 3-3 against Dallas

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Nelson Palacio scored his first career goal in the eighth and final minute of second-half stoppage time and Real Salt Lake overcame a three-goal second-half deficit to earn a 3-3 draw with FC Dallas on Saturday night, extending its unbeaten streak to 11.

Real Salt Lake (9-2-4) is off to the best start in franchise history, going on a 7-0-4 run to climb to the top of the Western Conference. The last time Real Salt Lake held the sole lead in the West was in August 2013. On April 30, 2016, the club tied for first place.

Neither team scored until Asier Illarramendi took advantage of an assist from Patrickson Delgado in the fourth minute of stoppage time to score his second goal of the season and give Dallas (3-6-4) a halftime lead.

Dallas took a 3-0 lead when Delgado and Paul Arriola scored two minutes apart early in the second half. Delgado's goal was the first of his career. The 20-year-old midfielder scored unassisted in the 57th minute. Arriola followed with his first goal of the season, off an assist from Illarramendi.

Diego Luna started the RSL comeback two minutes after Arriola's goal when he took passes from Andrés Gómez and 30-year-old rookie Matt Crooks and scored for the third time this season. The assist was the fourth of the season for Crooks, who was making his 11th start and 13th appearance.

Maikel Chang set up Anderson Julio's third goal of the season, reducing the deficit to one goal in the 73rd minute and setting the stage for Palacio, who scored with an assist from Julio.

Zac MacMath saved six shots for Real Salt Lake. Maarten Paes saved five shots for Dallas.

RSL's winning streak matches the single-season record set last season. The club had an 18-game unbeaten streak in the 2010-11 season and a 16-game unbeaten streak in the 2013-14 season.

Real Salt Lake earned the point despite Dallas holding red-hot Chicho Arango without a goal. Arango began the day with 13 goals and eight assists, which is a league-leading total.

Real Salt Lake was playing the first of three consecutive away games after scoring home victories of 2-0 against the Seattle Sounders and 5-3 against the Colorado Rapids. RSL overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat the Rapids, earning RSL three points after trailing by two goals for only the fourth time in the club's 628-game history. Arango and Andrés Gómez both scored two goals and provided an assist in the comeback win.

Dallas has a 14-2-7 record in the home series and a 42-22 advantage in goals scored. Overall, Dallas has a 23-14-12 advantage in the series.

Real Salt Lake stays away and plays against the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday. Dallas travels to play against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday.
