Jameela Jamil from “The Good Place” lands her next film role in the remake of a romantic comedy

The Good Place star Jameela Jamil has landed her next film role in a remake of a romantic comedy.

The actress, who played Tahani Al-Jamil in the comedy series, will star in “Lola & Freddie” alongside Naomie Harris from “Moonlight” and Joel Fry from “The End We Start From” (via Variety).

The film is considered a British reinterpretation of the 2012 classic “Celeste & Jesse Forever,” in which Rashida Jones from “Parks and Recreation” and Andy Samberg from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” play a divorcing couple trying to maintain their friendship.

Directed by Dean Craig, Lola and Freddie is similarly about a once inseparable couple (Harris and Joel) who decide to divorce after falling apart.

Lola's career flourishes while Freddie continues to pursue his dream of becoming a screenwriter. When Freddie is hired by a successful studio and rekindles a previous relationship, Lola recognizes in him qualities she once wanted in her marriage.

The official synopsis reads: “With Freddie's tragic loss, Lola begins to miss a life she no longer wanted. As their separate worlds collide again, Lola and Freddie must face the uncomfortable truth that they may still love each other. But a major development in Freddie's life means it may be too late to save their relationship.”

The film will be shot on location in London before being presented at the European Film Market in Berlin.

Following the announcement, director Craig shared his excitement, saying: “I absolutely loved Celeste & Jesse Forever, so when I read Peter Howitt's script for the UK-set reimagining, I was delighted that he had managed to retain the comedic and emotional essence of the original while creating something that feels completely new and unique and quintessentially English.”

“Naomie and Joel are perfect Lola and Freddie and it's a privilege to work with this phenomenally talented cast and fantastic producers. I think we have everything we need to make a very special film.”

There is no release date for Lola and Freddie yet. The Good Place is available to stream on Netflix.
