Texas Softball beats Texas A&M 9-8 in Super Regionals

With their season on the line, the Texas softball team defeated Texas A&M 9-8 in nine innings in the second game of their Super Regional meeting.

On Friday night, the No. 1 Longhorns lost 6-5 to the Aggies. The Aggies played on Saturday for a chance to qualify for the Women's College World Series, but were unable to win.

The Aggies led 3-0 until the 4th inning, when the Longhorns woke up with a Joley Mitchell home run to left field to put UT on the scoreboard. Trailing 5-1 in the 6th inning, Texas put a 5-pointer on the scoreboard to take a 6-5 lead. The Longhorns used small ball to win the game, with Victoria Hunter and Mia Scott each knocking in a run, then Viviana Martinez tied the game with a two-run single. Reese Atwood broke the tie with an RBI single to center field to score Martinez.

Texas took a 6-5 lead when they scored two more runs on a home run by Bella Denton. But then Texas couldn't hold on to the lead as the Aggies tied the game in the second half of the inning when Mya Perez hit a three-run home run off Estelle Czech to tie the game at 8-8.

After a scoreless eighth inning, Texas scored on a fielder's choice by Ashton Maloney and scored a run by Kayden Henry for a 9-8 lead. The Aggies were able to get a couple more runners on base in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Mac Morgan was able to finish the game and get the win to force a third game on Sunday.

The two teams will face each other and the winner will advance to the Women's College World Series.
