Viral fan theory suggests Cody Rhodes and Triple H deprived The Rock of the main event spot at Wrestlemania 40

Fans of professional wrestling, driven by passion, enthusiasm and logic, often present wrestling theories that are mind-boggling and seem astonishingly true. Recently, a series of posts went viral on X (formerly Twitter) from a user named Nav, claiming that Triple H and Cody Rhodes had teamed up to get The Rock a spot in the main event at WrestleMania 40.

The rumor about The Rock's match

On The Pat McAfee Show in September 2023, The Rock announced that the highly anticipated match against Roman Reigns was scheduled for early 2022. However, due to his film commitments and hectic schedule, he was unable to compete at WrestleMania 39 in Hollywood. For this reason, WWE considered Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes as possible replacements.

Sami Zayn's involvement in the Bloodline storyline and his popularity at the time made sense, but the choice of Cody was also sensible and the WWE decided on the latter. While Vince McMahon had his people like John Cena or Roman Reigns as the creative head, Triple H wanted to build his empire around Cody Rhodes.

Cody won the 2023 Royal Rumble and challenged Roman Reigns at the Show of Shows in Hollywood, but lost in a surprise move, leaving many fans disappointed. WON reported that Hunter was unable to pull the trigger for Cody at WrestleMania 40 due to Vince McMahon's presence.

Roman's erratic title defenses after WrestleMania 39 drew criticism from fans, and then The Rock returned to WWE after four long years. In January of this year, The Great One said he wanted to sit at the head of the table, hinting at a feud with Roman Reigns. Although The Rock dropped the hint, The American Nightmare won the Royal Rumble that same month, hinting at Roman Reigns after the win.

The fans turned against The Rock

Just when a WrestleMania rematch seemed imminent, Cody dropped a bombshell and revealed that The Rock would face Roman instead of him, which caused major backlash from WWE fans. Hunter was aware that The Rock had signed a WWE contract earlier in the year, but having Cody win anyway seemed to be a deliberate plan to turn the crowd against The Brahma Bull and establish Cody as an even bigger babyface.

Seeing the negative reaction, The Rock had to turn the tables and join The Bloodline. Instead of facing the Tribal Chief to determine the Head of the Table, he joined him. The Rock ended up fighting Roman Reigns in a tag team match instead of the dream match. The whole situation seemed to be a well-executed turnaround by Cody Rhodes and Triple H that The Final Boss was unaware of.
