Stars go viral on the Wicked Catwalk

They say the devil wears Prada – and in 2012 that was certainly the case on the catwalk.

The brand didn't use traditional models to close its Fall 2012 men's show at Milan Fashion Week. Instead, a number of familiar, wicked faces walked the runway – Willem Dafoe, Tim Roth, Adrien Brody, Gary Oldman, Emile Hirsch, Garrett Hedlund and Jamie Bell.

Known for playing antagonists in a number of popular films, from Spider-Man to Pulp Fiction, they were dressed in simple suits, many with knee-length double-breasted jackets, and gave the audience their most menacing looks as they strode across the carpeted auditorium.

Miuccia Prada was inspired for the collection by men in power and how fashion can convey authority or superiority. “Clothing is also an instrument of power and a way to express male vanity,” she told WWD at the time.

Although the show took place more than a decade ago, Prada's Villains showcase has been trending on social media in recent months. Clippings of the actors walking down the runway went viral on TikTok, complete with background music from everyone from Lana Del Rey to David Bowie.

Here's a look back at the men who made the 2012 Milan Fashion Week runway finale unforgettable more than a decade later.

Willem Dafoe

One of Dafoe's best-known roles is his portrayal of the Green Goblin – also known as Norman Osborn – in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, in which he stars alongside Tobey Maguire. It's not entirely surprising that the character actor agreed to attend the Prada show – he is a confirmed fan of the brand and has worn their clothes for many years.

Tim Roth

Roth, who has worked with Quentin Tarantino, has had notable box office turns as a villain, playing burglar Ringo/Pumpkin in Pulp Fiction and Emil Blonsky/The Abomination in The Incredible Hulk, opposite Mark Ruffalo.

Adrien Brody

Brody is perhaps best known for his Oscar-winning role in The Pianist, but he has also portrayed a number of other characters throughout his career. He played the villain Dmitri in Wes Anderson's popular film The Grand Budapest Hotel and became a fan-favorite villain in Peaky Blinders. On the fashion front, it was announced last year that the actor would be collaborating with Bally to create a capsule collection.

Gary Oldman

Oldman has played many villains throughout his career, but Léon: The Professional is considered one of his best villain roles. He plays Norman Stansfield, a corrupt and murderous DEA agent.

Emile Hirsch

Particularly impressive is the film “Killer Joe,” in which Hirsch plays a young drug dealer who hires a hitman to kill his mother in order to collect the insurance money. Outside of acting, he has appeared in fashion campaigns for brands such as Rag and Bone.

Garrett Hedlund
