The new Street Fighter live-action poster has been unveiled

According to Collider, the first Street Fighter The movie promo was revealed at License Expo this year. The film was announced at SDCC 2023, but is still several rounds away from us. However, the poster itself has several references to the series.

The Street Fighter The logo itself looks like the logo that Udon uses for its ongoing Street Fighter Comic series. While the background itself is inspired by the original game intro from 1987. In Street Fighter, Capcom is written as graffiti on a wall and waits for someone to destroy it. When the wall collapses, a man appears, turns around and shows the Street Fighter Logo. The intro itself was revised in Excellent Street Fighter IV with support Cody Travers breaking through the wall.

The walls and graffiti motifs were used for various games in the series. The American release of Street Fighter II for the SNES and Super Street Fighter II Console game covers featured brick walls in their art. The latter used them as a background for the silhouettes of the new fighters in the game. Even Street Fighter 6 relies entirely on the graffiti look.

It doesn't work the first time…

Street Fighter has a long history of his story being adapted into a live-action film. The first film, Street Fighter(1994), had Jean Claude Van Damme as Guile and the late Raul Julia as M. Bison. The plot of the film tried to give Super Street Fighter II another story. Featuring other A-list actors like Ming Na Wen from The Mandalorian as Chun Li and Byron Mann from Wu Warrior/Arrow as Ryu, the film itself is considered “so bad it's good.” The film even gave birth to its own meme.

Surprisingly, this was the same year that the cult classic Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie was released. There were only 4 months between the two films, but Manga Entertainment's The animated film Anime was received more positively.

The Legend of Chun Li was the second American adaptation with Mortal Kombat Robin Sho takes on the role of the wise master. Kristen Kruek takes on the title role as Street Fighter first female fighter, Chun-Li, posted her Smallville 2009. Recently, the fan project Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist was released in 2014. Both adaptations decided to focus more on the Street Fighter Zero / Alpha Area of tradition.

With Super Mario Bros: The Movie Exceed expectations and other video game adaptations do well, such as Stand outmaybe that alone is why Legendary wants to give it a try. Danny and Michael Philippou will direct this film and say that this could be something we've never seen before in the 40-year-old franchise. History usually repeats itself, but it seems like this film could break the curse of live-action adaptations of fighting games. At the time of writing, it is unknown what the setting will be or who else is involved.
