An NBA author has awarded Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings several times

A few weeks ago, many were confused by the fact that Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis received a vote in two different awards races: Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year. Now that the NBA has released the voting results for the 2023-24 season, we know why.

Now that the NBA has announced which players have and have not won which awards, they also know who voted for Sabonis in those awards. In addition, they also voted for Sabonis in more awards than MVP and DPOY.

MARCA writer Ignacio Garcia voted for Sabonis in four separate votes. He selected Sabonis to the All-NBA first team. He selected Sabonis to the All-Defense first team. He selected Sabonis 3rd on the Defensive Player of the Year list. Finally, he selected Sabonis 4th on the Most Valuable Players list.

Sabonis was named to the All-NBA third team but received little to no recognition at the other awards shows. Obviously, Sabonis' play resonated with Garcia. While voters and fans may disagree with his assessment of the Kings center, the fact remains that Sabonis had another spectacular season with the Kings.

The votes Sabonis received in each awards poll ranged from valid to questionable to downright ridiculous, but there's no doubting how good he was in his second full season with the Kings.

Sabonis is still one of the league's most dangerous low-post players, nearly breaking 60 percent from the field. He also led the league in rebounds – a career-high 13.7 per game – and averaged a career-high 8.2 assists per game. Curiously, his stats earned him another All-NBA appearance, but no All-Star appearance.

The votes he received also go against Sabonis, as the Kings missed the NBA playoffs. That doesn't bode well for him, but on the plus side, the Kings haven't dropped off much from last season and he will have a chance to prove himself worthy of the love he received in the awards races.

Although no one in their right mind would ever vote for him for an award that has to do exclusively with defense.
