Jaycob Linsey, who danced in a viral video at the screening of “Black Panther,” is on his way to an HBCU

The social media world was collectively stunned by the news of Jaycob Linsey's high school graduation. Linsey is known for his dance routine in a 2018 viral video from Ron Clark Academy celebrating the fact that his class would be watching Black Panther.

The February 2018 caption read: “The moment when the whole school finds out they're going to see @Marvel's new movie, @BlackPanther!”

The video has become a big part of meme culture and is appearing on various social media platforms. Kirk Brown, Chief Development & Communications Officer at Ron Clark Academy, caused a stir on social media with a post highlighting Linsey's big achievement, her high school graduation.

“Wanna feel old? SWIPE. I'm proud of my boy Jaycob who graduated high school last night! It definitely feels like yesterday dancing on the RCA tables with his classmates. Ha,” Brown said in a caption.

To add to the joy and wonder, Brown shared with popular HBCU media outlet HBCU Alum via the post's comments section that Linsey is headed to HBCU as he will be attending Alabama A&M in the fall. In a post on his personal Instagram page, Linsey talked about his unique high school journey that began during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

“Starting high school online was such a hard experience for me. I had to go through everything and couldn't even imagine THIS DAY. I thank God, my parents and my village for all the love and support that brought me here. Love, everyone!”

Black Panther star and Howard University graduate Chadwick Boseman actually saw the video during a performance in The view in February 2018 and responded positively.

“Oh man, that's why you do this. … That's one of the reasons I get up in the morning.”

Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of The View, perfectly illustrated the significance of the moment, saying, “The importance of this film is not just for little brown boys and girls, but for all boys and girls to know that superheroes come in all colors. They didn't really know that until now.”

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in 2020, Linsey spoke about the death of Chadwick Boseman.

“Honestly, I still can't get over his death. When I look at him, I never thought he had colon cancer. It's hard to believe because his face always seemed to show joy and happiness.”

Linsey will follow in Boseman's footsteps as he will also attend an HBCU during his studies.
