What happened to the Harbinger movie?

By Steven Nelson | Published

It would be a pretty nice life to have the psychic power to make anyone do what you want. In theory, I could become the most famous writer in the world because I could make anyone go to this website and read all of my articles multiple times.

However, I would probably be too busy being an international womanizer, with my wife's “permission” of course, and might not get around to writing at all. You take the good with the bad, right?

People with mental powers are a dime a dozen in comics, but Valiant Entertainment’s harbinger The reboot was great when it happened, and it seemed like Valient was going to make a movie out of it themselves.

Okay, so actually it was a revival of an earlier attempt to adapt the comic for the theater, based on Jim Shooter's original series, which ran from 1992 to 1995.

Paramount had held the licensing rights since 2008, but the project was at a permanent dead end after all the legal wrangling with Fox and Warner Bros. Guardian.

But then Valiant got the rights back and was able to move forward with the original plans. The original comic may have wowed everyone from the start, but we suspect that the success of the reboot, thanks in no small part to the skillful storytelling of writer Joshua Dysart, gave them more confidence that this would be a solid title to develop.

Director Brett Ratner was the first director, but for obvious reasons he fell out of favor in Hollywood. Since then, the harbinger The film has experienced a few different starts and stops.

Screenwriter Stephen Susco, who wrote Texas Chainsaw 3D and Paramount Vessel of the Insurgentscommissioned the harbinger Script.

bloodshot Vin Diesel

From there harbinger fell back in the Valiant comic book series with Bloodshot 2020. This film starred Vin Diesel. The problem was that the film was bad and flopped at the box office ($37 million on a $45 million budget), so the Harbinger film moved from Sony to Paramount Pictures. This meant that it was no longer part of the Valiant universe.

Paramount still seems interested in making the film, at least on some level. There is hope that if it is successful, it could create a wide-ranging universe featuring other Valiant characters such as XO Manowar and Shadowman.

For those who don’t know: harbinger is something of an anti-superhero story that follows Peter Stancheck, a teenager with tremendous psionic abilities who is out to take down Toyo Harada, the most powerful psionicist in the world, and is at loggerheads with the Harbinger Foundation, the powerful organization that originally recruited him.

He assembles a small team of ragtag individuals with similar skills to help him. Their story is funny, exciting and delves into political and business intrigue.

Whether the actual film will ever exist remains to be seen.
