Superman star James Gunn reveals how much of the DCU film has already been shot – News about comic and superhero films

James Gunn says that 2025 Superman is about halfway through filming.

In a recent Instagram post, Gunn was asked in the comments when the first trailer for Superman would be released in 2025 and whether it might be ready to play before Deadpool & Wolverine in July 2024. Production on the film began on February 29, 2024, the Man of Steel's official birthday.

Gunn responded to the comment: “We're only a little over halfway through filming.”

Who stars in James Gunn's Superman movie?

Formerly known as Superman: Legacy, Superman was written and directed by Gunn. It stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl.

Concrete details about Superman remain largely under wraps at the moment. The first official image from the film was shared by Gunn earlier this month and can be viewed here.

Superman will be the first official film entry in Gunn and Safran's upcoming DCU; however, before that, an animated Creature Commandos series will first be released in 2024.

Other planned DCU films include Craig Gillespie's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (starring Milly Alcock and currently scheduled for release in June 2026), Andy Muschietti's The Brave and the Bold, James Mangold's Swamp Thing, The Authority and a Teen Titans Movie.

Gunn's Superman will hit U.S. theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025 as part of the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
