“Let’s sing this for him.”

Steve Albini dedicated his life to music and not only performed on stage, but was also an accomplished recording engineer, working with bands such as Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, the Pixies and the legendary Nirvana. When the musician was only 61 years old, it was announced on May 7th that he unfortunately passed away. With stars like Joanna Newsom and Damon Locks showering Albini with love, Dave Grohl decided to dedicate a portion of his recent concert to Albini.

Entertaining fans in North Carolina, Grohl stopped the concert for a moment to share his love for the music producer. Grohl headlined the “Everything or Nothing At All” show and performed “My Hero” in honor of Albini. He said: “Tonight I want to dedicate this song to a friend who we recently lost and who I have known for a very long time. He left us far too soon. He touched you all, I'm sure. I'm talking about Steve Albini. For those of you who know, you know. For those of you who don't know, just remember this name: Steve Albini. Let’s sing this for him.”

Not the first time Dave Grohl talked a lot about Steve Albini

With fans loving the tribute, it wasn't the first time Grohl spoke highly of Albini. The singer spoke back in 2015 BBC 6 Music. Grohl once again praised the musician's work ethic, saying, “He was the smartest, most cynical producer/music critic/bandleader/expert, everyone was afraid of him.” Then you see pictures of him and he just looks like this skinny little guy. He’s just smarter and funnier and better at everything than anyone else in the world.”

Giving insight into the life Albini led, Grohl concluded: “He is one of a kind and I am glad I had the opportunity to tell his story because I think he is a great example not only for musicians, but also for the industry.” and how to think beyond traditional business. He lives to do real and passionate things and his level of integrity is unwavering. He just won't bend and is stubborn for all the right reasons. That’s why I love him more than anything, I think he’s great.”
