Unmasked: Teenage murderer who stabbed father over 'minor disagreement'

A baby-faced killer who stabbed a father to death over a “minor disagreement” has been exposed for the first time after being jailed for murder.

Jordan Rance, 17, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 21 years for the murder of Paul Marsh, 49, after the pair began arguing. On November 17 last year, emergency services were called to a property in Atherton after Paul was stabbed in the shoulder.

Rance and his friend fled the scene while others administered first aid and called an ambulance. When police arrived at the property on Samuel Street, they discovered Paul was seriously injured but died a short time later.

After pleading guilty to murder at an earlier hearing, Rance was sentenced to 21 years in prison at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court yesterday (May 8). Rance, who once took a scary selfie with a knife in a black coat and balaclava, can now be named after a judge lifted reporting restrictions.

Detective Superintendent Neil Higginson said the case should be a “clear reminder” that carrying a knife for self-protection is “not a reasonable excuse”.

He said: “This is a tragic case in which a seemingly harmless exchange has escalated and resulted in the loss of life. Our thoughts are with Paul’s family at this time.”

“We also have a young person who is in prison for a long time. This case should serve as a stark reminder that carrying a knife is illegal and you could face jail time if you are found to be in possession of a knife.
