Man killed in knife attack in Leominster is described as a vibrant football star

The victim of a fatal stabbing Tuesday outside a Leominster apartment complex was described as “vivacious” and a star football player in high school, his family said.

The Worcester County District Attorney's Office identified the victim Wednesday afternoon as 20-year-old Robert Day of Leominster. Day was fatally stabbed just before 1 a.m. Tuesday outside the Riverside Village apartment complex on State Street.

Day later died at a local hospital, and there were no arrests as of Wednesday afternoon.

In a GoFundMe set up by Cammie Rivera for Day's family, Day was described as “a vibrant 20-year-old young man just starting his life” and “a friend to everyone.”

“No family should have to endure this much pain because of such an unexpected tragedy,” the GoFundMe reads. “Robert was a graduate of Leominster High School and was known as a star football player while attending Athol High School.”

GoFundMe, which raises money for funeral expenses, had raised over $10,000 as of Wednesday evening.

Leominster Police and State Police detectives are investigating the stabbing and are asking the public for help in obtaining video of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call Leominster police at 978-534-7560.
