The Padres' all-in approach must pay off soon

Russell Dorsey, national MLB insider for Yahoo Sports, says the San Diego Padres' big swings in talent acquisition will have to pay off soon if general manager AJ Preller wants to keep his job.

Padres president of baseball operations AJ Preller hasn't been afraid to make big moves in recent seasons. He acquired players like Luisa Rise, Mayor Machado Hassan, Kim Juan Soto, Josh-hater Xander Bogart, Yu Darvish and Dylan C. But the Padres also wasted a lot of potential capital to acquire those players. Last year, the Padres had a roster that many believed could compete for the World Series, and they missed the postseason this year. They have a lot of remaining talent from that, but missing the postseason again would raise a lot of questions about the future of Preller and this Padres team, while acquiring a player like Luisa Rise was a worthwhile move for San Diego. They still have other areas of need as they begin to pitch. But what the Padres' prospects are now, having made all of these moves to make another splash at the trade deadline in the next few weeks and months, is something we'll likely see. what AJ Preller has up his sleeve as he tries to protect not only his job, but the future of his squad
