John Carpenter didn't like the highest rated film of the year

“In Search of the Darkness Part II”

It's been almost a year since the summer box office was revived with an unparalleled double feature. I'm talking about, of course Barbenheimerthe pairing of both Barbie And Oppenheimer as the largest summer tent poles 2023. With Barbie, it made sense. It was a popular IP with a strong cast and director. Oppenheimer was stranger. Yes, it was Christopher Nolan, but it was also a three-hour biopic, shot partly in black and white.

So, Oppenheimer Most notably, the film exceeded expectations, grossed a ton of money and ultimately won Best Picture at the Academy Awards in March. All's well that ends well, unless you ask famed horror director John Carpenter. He didn't like it all that much.

In one (n Interview with Last Donut of the Night, John Carpenter was interviewed about a lot of things, including noir and video games. He was also asked what films he has been a fan of recently. While he refused to comment on it BarbieHe had a little more to say about that Oppenheimer.

Carpenter noted, “I don't want to talk about things I didn't enjoy,” before continuing, “Oppenheimer it was fine. It was ok. Everyone praises it as the film of the century – I don’t know.”

I really want to Oppenheimer, and even in my echo chamber, I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone call it the movie of the century. It was really good and definitely deserved the Best Picture award, but I'm not sure it's Nolan's best film (that's obvious). insomnia). Maybe John Carpenter's comments will finally be the push Nolan needs to give this horror film he played around with it.

In the same interview, Carpenter responded, “You’re a kid. That makes me angry” when the respondent shared his age, and that alone is worth a read. You can watch the whole thing Interview hereand be sure to let me know on Twitter whether you agree with Carpenter or not.

Do you want to Oppenheimer? Hate it? What do you think John Carpenter would do next? sound off @Chadiscollins.
