Samsung could give the Galaxy Z Fold 6 cover display the S24 treatment

Finally, an end to the prototype-like bezel

Summary

  • The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 will soon launch with sleek design upgrades, including chiseled edges and a titanium frame similar to the S24 Ultra.
  • Leaks show that the Z Fold 6's cover display will feature sharper rounded corners, thinner bezels at the top and bottom, and will be 2.8mm wider than its predecessor.
  • While the cover display may not be the main selling point, smaller design upgrades like this can have a positive impact on the everyday user experience.

It's no secret that Samsung's annual foldable lineup update is upon us, and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are just a few months away from launch. The steady stream of rumors has revealed several details about the potential improvements Samsung has planned for this generation, including chiseled edges and a titanium frame for the Z Fold 6, just like the S24 Ultra. A new leak suggests that the phone's display bezel design could also be similar to the S24 series.

Samsung's 2024 foldable model could feature some ultra-sized upgrades

Although we've already seen leaked renders of the Z Fold 6, it featured screen bezels similar to those of the currently available Fold 5. However, SamMobile has obtained a CAD render of the device from American case maker Thinborne, which suggests that the screen edges will be much more consistent this year. The information is implicitly confirmed by reputable tipsters Ice universe on X (formerly Twitter), who posted a video showing off an unnamed accessory manufacturer's tempered glass protectors.

Changes around every corner

Although it may not be obvious at first glance, the Z Fold 6's new cover display will have sharper rounded corners all around, and the outer edge of the bezel on the left side will not have sharp corners like the current generation. In a side-by-side comparison shot, we also notice that the top and bottom outlines of the protective film will be thinner on the Fold 6. A helpful measurement in the image also shows that the Fold 6's cover display will be 2.8mm wider than its predecessor.

For a device where the cover display isn't even the unique selling point, these may seem like insignificant details, but I would say it makes a difference in everyday use when you start to notice the subtleties. However, we recommend that you take all leaks with caution, even if the leaks from accessory manufacturers are usually reliable. Samsung is expected to clear the air in July, just before the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
