What you should know about Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie.”

Originally written and recorded by indie band The Zutons, Mark Ronson recorded a version in 2007 that featured lead vocals from Amy Winehouse.

In 2021, The guard listed “Valerie” as Amy Winehouse's seventh best song. “Her cover of the 2006 Zutons single is the most inescapable Amy Winehouse track of all, but if you want proof of her prowess as a stylist, you'll find it here. Much more than Mark Ronson's '60s soul arrangement, it's her voice that transforms the whole song, transforming the amorous original into something that crackles with raunchy intent,” the outlet wrote about the track.

“Valerie” by Amy Winehouse Lyrics

Sometimes I go out alone
And I look across the water

And I think of all the things you do
And in my head I paint a picture

Since I came home
Well, my body was in complete disarray
And I missed your auburn hair
And the way you like to dress
Aren't you coming over?
Stop making a fool of me
Why don't you come over, Valerie?
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie

Did you have to go to prison?
Put your house up for sale?
Have you found a good lawyer?

I hope you didn't get a tan
I hope you find the right guy to fix the problem for you

Are you shopping somewhere?
Change your hair color?
Are you busy?
And did you have to pay the fine you've been avoiding all this time?
Are you still dizzy?

Because since I came home
Well, my body was in complete disarray
And I missed your auburn hair
And the way you like to dress
Aren't you coming over?
Stop making a fool of me
Why don't you come over, Valerie?
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie

Sometimes I go out alone
And I look across the water

And I think of all the things you do
And in my head I paint a picture

Because since I came home
Well, my body was in complete disarray
And I missed your auburn hair
And the way you like to dress
Aren't you coming over?
Stop making a fool of me
Why don't you come over, Valerie?
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie

Valerie
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie
Oh, Valerie, Valerie, Valerie
Valerie
