The Lakers will consider Anthony Davis' opinion when searching for a head coach

The first big task the Los Angeles Lakers need to complete this offseason is hiring a new head coach. Several candidates are reportedly being considered, and it seems like the team is taking its time evaluating them before making a final decision.

It will be important for the Lakers to hire a head coach who has the respect and trust of LeBron James. That doesn't mean hiring someone who was hand-picked by James or who favors the superstar in any way, but it does mean making sure there's no drama in the locker room.

According to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, the team will also consider Anthony Davis' opinion when searching for a head coach.

“And of course the opinion of LeBron James will be taken into account, but not just LeBron James, but also Anthony Davis, as I was told,” McMenamin said. “And the team looks like Anthony Davis is finally picking up the torch from LeBron over the last season and a half. While LeBron may still have time to process the end of this season as he decides his future with the team, they have another voice and another leader whose opinion they will consider in Anthony Davis.”

There's been a lot of talk about Davis gradually taking over the team's leadership over the last few years. Even though he wasn't the top scorer that season, he played a career-high 76 games and arguably had the best season of his career.

As the 39-year-old James continues to add weight to his body, his workload will need to be reduced and managed during the regular season. This could mean that Davis will have to take on a slightly heavier offensive load in the future.
