Report: iPad event video on Tuesday should last about 35 minutes

On Tuesday, May 7th, Apple is hosting its first product event of the year, “Let Loose.” The company will introduce a new lineup of iPad Pro and iPad Air. The iPad Pro tablets get OLED displays, a new, thinner housing and run on the M4 chip. The iPad Air is updated with the M2 chip and offered for the first time in a new, larger display size of 12.9 inches.

As Mark Gurman reported today, Apple will announce all of this in a brisk, roughly 35-minute video presentation. This is similar to the runtime of the Spooky Fast event in October.

In addition to the new iPad Pro and iPad Air range, Apple is also expected to introduce new generations of the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, the latter of which features a new pressure gesture with haptic feedback.

The move to the M4 chip in the iPad Pro is being hailed as a sign of Apple's advantages in artificial intelligence on the device, as well as incremental increases in CPU and GPU performance. But it seems we'll have to wait until WWDC in June to see what kind of AI features Apple will integrate into the system, with proactive AI features expected to be a focus of iOS 18.

Atypically, the May 7 event is scheduled for 7 a.m. Pacific time, rather than Apple's usual 10 a.m. time slot. Apple is believed to be experimenting with the format to see when it can attract the most attention, and a slightly earlier start time is better for Europe and Asia time zones.

Of course, stay tuned to 9to5Mac this week as we give you full coverage of all the announcements. Updates for the other iPad models are expected to follow later in the year.
