NBA Insider Update on LeBron James' Plans

Will there be another LeBron James sweepstakes in the NBA free agency market this summer? If so, the Detroit Pistons would have the resources to make an offer.

Of course, given the Pistons' situation, it's unlikely that James would consider a move to Detroit.

There was once a supposed loophole in a possible LeBron sweepstakes, and it was simple: Draft Bronny James, and the odds of signing his father would increase dramatically.

However, the James family's portrayal makes it clear that LeBron's team is not in a “bronny or bust” situation for next season.

“The idea of them playing together is not a priority, it's not at the forefront, at least not in LeBron James' mind anymore,” he said ESPN's NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, based on conversations with Rich Paul.

Instead, Bronny focuses on landing in the right “development system.” If that isn't possible in the NBA, a return to the NCAA is certainly possible.

So you don't have to draft Bronny, but you have the money to offer for the future Hall of Famer; Could the Pistons even get in the room with LeBron?

This situation seems doubtful.

“In all likelihood, we all know he’s back with the Lakers,” Wojnarowski said. “It will just depend on what the structure of a deal is. 2 years? three years maybe after he signed off.”

With a $51 million player option looming, it is expected that LeBron will decline and seek a multi-year deal. He is eligible to sign for up to three years and over $160 million.

Adding LeBron is certainly an intriguing pipe dream for the Pistons, but it wouldn't make much sense for either side. Based on his recent runs with the Lakers, it's clear that James can't lead any team to the Finals alone at this point. As for the Pistons, they haven't come close to winning a championship.

The NBA is a wild place and it's hard to say that nothing will ever happen. LeBron could end up somewhere else next year, but a return to the Lakers seems more likely than not.
