Mortal Kombat 1 adds skins from the iconic 90s film

Ed Boon has revealed that Mortal Kombat 1 is adding a skin for Scorpion based on his appearance in the iconic 1995 film, and that more skins for other fighters may be in the pipeline.

As every Mortal Kombat 1 player knows by now, the latest entry has one much of DLC skins for its fighters, which regularly fill the controversial Premium Store. Their prevalence and high cost have been a sore subject for fans since Mortal Kombat 1's release, but there have been a few rare moments where the praise outweighed the criticism – this is one of those moments.

Over on Twitter, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has teased some upcoming additions to Mortal Kombat 1 ahead of his appearance at CCXP Mexico tomorrow, where we're expected to get our first look at Homelander. However, before we move on to the next big DLC character, Boon has shared a glimpse of a highly requested skin for Scorpion this gives him his 90s movie look.

1995 Scorpion appears in Mortal Kombat 1

For those who haven't seen the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie, it's a surprisingly good adaptation of the game that has become something of a cult classic over the years (thanks especially to the theme song). In it, Scorpion is presented with a simple design where he has piercing white eyes and wears a yellow and black gi, similar to the games but with his own distinctive style.

Nostalgia aside, it's a great look for Scorpion that fans have been wanting for quite some time. Boon just happened to decide to announce that Mortal Kombat 1 will be coming sometime in the future, which he confirmed by revealing several screenshots of the skin in action. We don't know when it's coming yet, but we'll probably find out in the future.

Boon also responded to a tweet asking about Kitana's '90s skin:
