Even on the quaint streets of East Hampton, miles from the nearest college, March Madness was alive and well. If not, perhaps Bonackers honor the spirit of the Games in the same “crazy” way as college towns do. I started watching early evening games during March Madness, and Citta remains my favorite spot to watch the NBA playoffs in East Hampton.

As a die-hard Knicks fan (some say the weather is nice), Cittanuova in East Hampton has, somewhat surprisingly, become my favorite place to watch a game before dinner—without the usual sports bar chaos. If you haven't been following along, the Knicks are playing great basketball and are expected to make a strong playoff run this year!

As I headed to Cittanuova to watch a game, the air of sophistication was palpable, but there was a subtle underlying excitement. East Hampton may be miles away from Madison Square Garden, but the spirit of sports lives here too.

Cittanuova's restaurant offers a perfect mix of enjoyment for both sports enthusiasts and casual observers. The pre-dinner atmosphere is exactly what you want at a late afternoon game: engaging yet low-key, allowing for both celebration and conversation.

I don't like going to a traditional sports bar during the day, it's always so dark and feels like going to a matinee movie theater: a little confusing. Instead, stop by Citta on the weekend for a bright, casual spot to enjoy the game with a nice bottle of red wine instead of a warm Bud Lite.

Unlike the typical sports bar experience, which is often dominated by cheers and the occasional beer spill, Cittanuova maintains its elegance. There is a mutual understanding among the guests; Celebration of a spectacular basket is welcome, but there is no room for overzealous fandom that precludes pleasant dialogue. It is a testament to the establishment's ability to serve a diverse clientele.

You already know the food is great for dinner, but Citta's Cheeseburger is just as good as it is in the Hamptons. Not a super burger; This is a real big boy burger. You'll be glad you ordered it.
