Anthony Davis injury updates: Lakers C is dealing with a shoulder injury in Game 5 vs. Nuggets

To update: Davis has returned to the bench for LA and will likely return to action at some point. We'll see how effective he can be in overcoming shoulder pain.

To update: Davis, clearly not himself as he tried to overcome the shoulder injury, has gone back to the locker room to have the issue further examined. Even if it turns out to be nothing major and Davis comes back, he will likely be pushed to his limits as the Lakers try to stave off elimination.

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis appeared to suffer a serious shoulder injury in Game 5 against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night. Davis blocked a shot from Michael Porter Jr. as both tried to get in position for a rebound, and the big man went down with shoulder pain. Since Davis didn't land on the shoulder, it was apparently the collision with Porter Jr. that caused the problem. Before the injury, he had a great game with 16 points and nine rebounds.

The Lakers star did not return to the locker room and received treatment on the bench before eventually returning to contention. Given that the team is facing elimination, there is almost no chance that Davis will sit out the rest of the game without being unable to walk. However, we will have to wait and see if this shoulder injury affects his ability to grab rebounds and shoot the ball.

Should Davis ultimately be forced out of the game, Christian Wood and Jaxson Hayes will be tasked with absorbing those pivotal minutes. LeBron James and D'Angelo Russell will likely shoulder a larger share of the scoring burden as Davis struggles with injury.
