On the one hand, it was. The Skywalker Saga was largely about the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker and how his conversion to the dark side and his actions as Darth Vader affected the galaxy and his children. The fall of the Jedi, the rise of the Empire, the Rebellion, the First Order, the Resistance, and even Rey's very existence are all tied to Anakin Skywalker's rise and fall. After both his story and that of his descendants (however chaotic) are completed, The Skywalker saga could and should have ended after that Rise of Skywalkerand yet it wasn't like that.

The Rise of SkywalkerThe final scene still allowed the Skywalker saga to continue. As Rey said goodbye to Luke and Leia by burying her lightsabers in the sands of Tatooine, Rey chose a new last name for herself: Skywalker. Emotionally, this was a compelling turning point for Rey. All she had ever wanted was to see her parents again and find out where she came from, but now that she knew the truth about her true origins and the dark legacy behind it, she chose to reject it and embrace family, which she had found along the way instead.

There's no doubt that Rey deserves this fresh start, but he's proven it war of stars wasn't ready to completely break away from the Skywalker name and the history that went with it. Did Rey Skywalker's cinematic story end with? Rise of SkywalkerThat wouldn't have been a problem either. Now, however New Jedi Order Plans call for Rey to continue using the Skywalker name. The saga will be forced to continue because she is a Skywalker now and forever. Eventually, Luke and Leia's Force spirits approved of their choice. There is no going back now.
