Steve Sarkisian says the Texas Longhorns' QB-arch manning was “tremendously good” in their recent scrimmage

The noise and expectations surrounding Arch Manning as a freshman last spring were astronomical for someone who realistically should have been finishing his senior year of high school.

He was “expected” to fly past Maalik Murphy, who is next in line for the starting job, and many fans thought he would snatch the starting spot away from Quinn Ewers. None of those things happened, as Murphy was the star of the spring game last year and Ewers went on to lead the team to a Big 12 title and a berth in the College Football Playoff. However, Murphy is now a quarterback at Duke and Ewers is expected to leave for the NFL after the 2024 season, meaning he will be on Manning's team in 2025.

With a full year under his belt, Manning has made great strides and received tons of praise from head coach Steve Sarkisian.

When speaking to the media on Tuesday, Sarkisian praised Manning for last weekend's game and even said he was “great.” Manning was also clearly able to build on his success from the weekend and carry it over into Tuesday's practice, which Sarkisian considered his best practice.

“I thought he did a really good job of getting into the pocket, keeping his eyes on the field and playing the ball very accurately even under duress,” Sarkisian told the media on Tuesday.

During this Saturday's spring game, fans of Texas and college football in general will get their first real look at Manning, in a much larger role than last season. He has a chance to make a statement while giving Longhorns fans optimism for the years to come.
