CMU Basketball names former NBA head coach Mike Dunlap as its new leader

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – The Mavs have their man.

And her husband – Mike Dunlap – certainly doesn’t lack experience.

CMU today announced the hiring of Dunlap as its new head men's basketball coach.

A native of Fairbanks, Alaska, Dunlap was the head coach of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets for one season (2012-13).

He is the only coach in NBA history to triple a team's wins in a season (7 wins in 2011-12, 21 wins in 2012-13).

Dunlap, an RMAC Hall of Fame member, spent nine seasons as head coach of MSU Denver (1998-2006), bringing home two national titles.

Dunlap most recently worked as an assistant coach with the Bucks in Milwaukee from 2020 to 2023, where he became NBA champion in 2021.

He was previously the head coach of Loyola Marymount of the Western Conference's Division 1 from 2014 to 2020. Dunlap won 81 games at Marymount, ranking 5th all-time in wins in program history.

Welcome to Grand Junction, Mike Dunlap!
