David Foster and Katharine McPhee's son doesn't just play drums anymore

David Foster And Katharine McPheeThree-year-old son Rennie will “probably become a lawyer one day,” despite being a drumming prodigy.

“He’s kind of on drums at the moment,” Foster, 74, said exclusively Us weekly at the Stars of Science event at the Academy Museum on Saturday, April 13th. “So we’ll see where he goes.”

Aside from playing the drums, Rennie has not developed a talent for playing any other instrument. “He goes to the piano and hits it, which upsets me,” Foster said Us. “But it's OK. He's a kid. He just turned three.”

Rennie's drumming skills made headlines earlier this year after Foster posted a video of his then two-year-old son sitting on a mini drum kit and playing along perfectly Michael Jacksonis “Rock With You.” A month later, Rennie joined his famous parents on stage at one of their shows in Washington, DC

“For the first time we had a VERY special guest on stage 🥁 #ProudMom,” McPhee, 40, captioned a February Instagram clip in which she cheers on Rennie from the side of the stage.

Performing on stage as a family is something fans shouldn't expect to become normal, according to Foster. “We did it once or a time and a half and it was fun, but we're not going to make it a habit,” he explained Us.

Last month, Foster and McPhee promoted their upcoming shows by sharing another adorable video of Rennie drumming “I Will Always Love You.” Whitney Houston. “Join us on tour this May! “We may have a little special guest joining us,” Foster captioned the March 30 Instagram clip, teasing that her son will be performing on tour.

Foster and McPhee welcomed their son in February 2021. They first got engaged in 2017, got engaged the following year and tied the knot in September 2019.

Foster has told it before Us in January that he had “no idea” how Rennie could learn to play the drums so easily since he wasn’t a drummer himself. “This is really mind-blowing,” he shared, adding that Rennie “can't even go potty.”

Aside from his musical abilities, Foster insisted Rennie was “just a normal kid,” adding: “He puts down the drums and plays with his toys.”

McPhee, for her part, recounted it Us in October 2023 that she and Foster are raising Rennie not to be an “a-hole,” stating, “He [needs] being nice, polite, obedient, having your own voice and stuff like that, but simple [be] a good child.”
