The killer in the Las Vegas law office shooting had “very specific goals,” according to police.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A man opened fire Monday during a deposition hearing in a custody case at a law office in an affluent Las Vegas neighborhood, leaving two “very specific targets” dead before the gunman killed himself, the Police with.

Lt. Jason Johansson of the Las Vegas police homicide unit said at a news conference that the gunman, a man in his 70s, killed himself after firing across the table, killing a man in his 50s and a woman in her 30s . Johansson said the shooting at the midsize office building in the Summerlin neighborhood occurred minutes after the hearing began Monday morning.

“It appears that both of our victims were very specific targets,” Johansson said.

There were seven people in the room at the time of the shooting, Johansson said. The four others, including a court reporter, managed to quickly escape and call police, he said, and the children at issue in the custody case were secured and safe.

Johansson did not name the victims or the shooter, but said the shooting occurred in Suite No. 560, the address of Las Vegas attorney Dennis Prince's law office, Prince Law Group.

“It is with deep sadness that Prince Law Group would like to thank everyone who has reached out to us with warm messages of concern and compassion about the tragic violence that occurred in our offices this morning,” the law group said in a statement on Monday evening.

The Clark County coroner's office said information about the victims and the shooter was not immediately available.

After the shooting, investigators searched the shooter's vehicle, a red Ford Expedition, outside the six-story office building, Johansson said. He didn't say what was found inside.

The Summerlin community stretches about 13 miles (21 kilometers) on the western edge of the city, about 30 minutes west of the Las Vegas Strip.
