Violent crime near Inner Harbor is on the rise, police say. Officials investigate fatal shooting of teenagers

BALTIMORE – Police say a Pikesville teenager and four others rode the subway to the Inner Harbor on April 1, where a 17-year-old was shot.

Surveillance video identified 19-year-old Dejuan Cole in the group believed to have been involved in a robbery that night.

Devron Tyner was filmed in the 200 block of East Pratt Street. He died of shock trauma, police said.

Cole, who turned himself in to police, is charged with first- and second-degree murder, as well as various counts of assault and weapons possession.

At a City Council meeting on public safety, Baltimore police said the number of homicides was down compared to last year.

“Currently our homicide numbers for 2024 are at 52 compared to 74 in 2023, so we are down 29.7%, but we also want to say that we know that one act of violence in our city is one too many,” the said Deputy Commissioner Monique Brown. “Currently our clearance rate is 45.5%. Our non-fatal shootings for 2024 are at 114 compared to 145 last year. That’s a 21.4% decrease and our clearance rate is 37.8%.”

Violent crime is on the rise near the Inner Harbor, according to Baltimore police.

In 2023, there were at least 126 victims of violent crime on Pratt Street, including assault, theft and robbery.

Cole has a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 8 in District Court.
