Helldivers 2: The Automatons are back, Illuminates could be next: Games: iTech post

When the Super Earth forces finally pushed back the Automatons and liberated all the planets on the other side of the galaxy, it was a bittersweet ending for players. All that remained was to eliminate the Terminids. It wasn't long before the robots returned, plunging the Helldivers back into battle with laser-shooting enemies.

The return of the automatons

Players are still recovering from the destruction and chaos they endured in Malevelon Creek, nicknamed “Robot Vietnam” by players. Now they must defend more planets to stop the automatons from invading Super-Earth.

A new major order has been released which states: “The Automatons have revealed their true strength: a massive invasion fleet sweeping through our territory. The defenses are faltering. Slow their advance as much as possible.”

Players must work together to defend five planets named Lesath, Penta, Choohe, Chort Bay and Menkent from the Lacaille and Hydra sectors. Completing the order would earn players 45 medals as a reward.

Not only are the automatons back, it could also be the beginning of the deployment of the alleged robot species, the Illuminati. Players believe that it is a new faction of Automatons that would be harder to defeat.

According to IGN, the Illuminati are “an ancient and technologically advanced alien civilization hell-bent on destroying Super-Earth.” Players even reported being attacked by blue lasers that dealt massive damage.

The rumor is also supported by in-game audio from news broadcasts reporting sightings of the new alien faction. Just as Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt denied the existence of flying terminids, he also said on X: “Blue rays are not real, they cannot harm you.”

For now, the Helldivers have to follow the big order and prevent the mentioned planets from being taken over by the robots. It could be today, it could be tomorrow, but we could soon encounter the terrible Illuminati faction.

Trouble on the other side

It will become more difficult for players as the machines improve their game, but that is already the case with the Terminids. In case you missed it, Helldivers 2 released a mission where players would activate the Terminid control system, which aims to kill the bugs on the planet.

However, certain NPC dialogues state that some of the Terminids have mutated as a result. Originally disputed by the Arrowhead CEO in a playful manner, this is now an accepted part of the game as the species is now called Shriekers.

They can swoop down and attack you, and players must destroy their mushroom nests to prevent more mushrooms from popping out once you kill them. This sets an exciting precedent because it means there may be even more fearsome Terminids in our future.

For now we only have to worry about defending the planets in the Lacaille and Hydra sectors. If someone sees blue lasers, we may see the leaked Illuminati sooner than expected, making the battle with Automatons even more terrifying than it already is.
