“Chicago Cubs extend overwhelming home run trend”

The Chicago Cubs bounced back from a terrible loss to the San Diego Padres on Monday with a relatively easy win on Tuesday. The Cubs won 5-1 at Petco Park, scoring all five runs with the long ball.

Yan Gomes started the fifth inning with a solo shot off Joe Musgrove – the first run scored by either team. However, that was just a taste of Christopher Morel hitting a home run later in the frame with the bases loaded against Stephen Kolek, giving his team a five-run lead.

It was Morel's first career grand slam and the team's first grand slam of the season. Incredibly, the last 17 Grand Slams in Chicago have all been played by different players. See how many names are recognizable in the list below.

Before Morel, Gomes was actually the youngest Cubs player with a grand slam, which is surprising considering he only hit 19 home runs with Chicago.

Other than him, the list is really a mixed bag.

There are some familiar names like Cody Bellinger, Ian Happ, Nico Hoerner and Willson Contreras, but also some remarkably random ones like PJ Higgins, Alfonso Rivas and Nelson Velazquez.

Part of the reason for this is that the Cubs have experienced significant roster churn in recent seasons after saying goodbye to their 2016 championship core. They haven't had many regular players in the squad recently.

Another explanation is that baseball is simply highly random. With so many games, fields and players every year, strange things are bound to happen.

Either way, Morel was able to add his name to that list in style as Chicago got a much-needed win.
