A Batman Beyond The animated project was pitched by Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Visual developer Yuhki Demers and writer Patrick Harpin last year and the footage What they created has now come to light. Courtesy of @Vehgeto on YouTube, the clip brings the futuristic neo-Gotham to life in a style similar to the Spider-Verse franchise and features young Dark Knight Terry McGinnis in the air for the first time.

First broadcast in 1999, Batman Beyond picks up the DC icon in 2039 and follows the adventures of Terry McGinnis, a teenager on the wrong side of the tracks who is taken under the wing of an elderly pensioner Bruce Wayne. Much like his predecessor, Terry is driven by remorse and revenge, and after being outfitted with a high-tech bat suit, he decides to use all the equipment and training Bruce provides him to take down criminals in the harsh, criminal world to hunt down Neo-Gotham.

The series has now become a fan favorite among DC fans. The character Terry McGinnis has now become an important part of Batman history, playing a role in his own comics and films, as well as other DC animated series such as: Justice League Unlimited.



Could we see a Batman Beyond revival in the DCU?

The Spider-Verse-like idea was first revealed by Yuhki Demers in February, with the artist releasing some stunning concept art and revealing the project's backstory. Which is unfortunately not currently in development.

“Five months ago Patrick Harpin joined @wbpictures @DCofficial and introduced a Batman Beyond Animated Feature. Before we made the pitch, they warned us, “There is absolutely no way to make a 𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 movie,” but they were thrilled by our enthusiasm. We laid out the blueprint for the entire film, and what started as a “never” became a “maybe.” Since then, we have been working our way up the company in hopes of reaching @jamesgunn.”

There have been previous attempts to adapt the fan-favorite TV classic into live-action, and the new DCU may be the best home to finally make that happen

Demers also revealed who is behind the Batman Beyond project: “From writer/director Patrick Harpin (My father, the bounty hunter) & Production Designer/Producer Yuhki Demers (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse).”

In the world of DC animation, Batman will return in the “spiritual sequel” to the acclaimed film Batman: The Animated Series, Batman: Caped Crusader, which is now set to appear on Prime Video. And someone who would like to see a similar revival Batman Beyond is lead narrator Will Friedle, who has said he would “love to do more episodes.”


“One of the joys of being a voice actor is that your voice doesn’t necessarily age. That's a bit, but you can still play 17 at 45 if you manage to get on the register. It's a character that's so important.” For me, I would love to do more episodes, not only because I know the fans would really like to see it, but because a) I would be back in the role, which is incredible would be, and b) I would get it “He and I are close friends and he is a wonderful actor and someone who has been a mentor on that side of the acting industry. Knowing we would be in the locker room together again.”
